How the score works
What Peach samples, how a mention is detected, and exactly how the mention rate is calculated.
Updated
In short. Your mention rate is the number of sampled answers that named you, divided by the number of answers the engines actually returned. Peach takes one answer per question per engine. It is a sample, and a small one.
What is sampled
A check asks eight buyer questions. Each question is put to each engine once.
| Count | |
|---|---|
| Questions per check | 8 |
| Answers requested from ChatGPT | 8 |
| Answers requested from Gemini | 8 |
| Google searches | 8 |
So a full check rests on at most sixteen model answers, plus whatever Google returned. Engines describes what each one runs.
How a mention is detected
Peach reads the text of each answer and looks for your brand. A match is any of:
- your brand name as a whole word, ignoring legal suffixes such as Ltd or Inc
- another name your own site uses for you, such as a full company name behind a short domain
- your domain
The whole-word rule matters. A brand called "Bland" is not matched by the word "bland" in a sentence, and a competitor called "Product School" is not matched by the word "product".
Competitors are detected the same way.
The calculation
For one engine:
mention rate = answers that named you / answers the engine returned
For the overall figure, both numbers are added up across engines first:
overall rate = all answers that named you / all answers returned
An answer the engine failed to return is not counted as a miss. It is left out of both numbers and shown as "No answer". If an engine returns nothing at all for a check, it is marked unavailable and does not pull your score down.
A worked example
ChatGPT returns 8 answers and names you in 3. Gemini returns 6 answers (two failed) and names you in 1.
- ChatGPT: 3 of 8, 38%
- Gemini: 1 of 6, 17%
- Overall: 4 of 14, 29%
What a verdict means
"Named in this sampled answer" means your name is in the text of the one answer Peach collected for that question from that engine.
"Not named in this sample" means the engine answered and your name is not in the text. It does not mean the assistant never recommends you.
Why your number can change without a new check
Saved reports are re-scored each time you open them, using the current matching rules and your current competitor list. If you add a brand name in Brand Hub, or Peach's matching improves, an old report can show a different number than it did when it was first run. The answers themselves do not change.
What the score does not include
- Your Google rank. When your site appears in Google's top results for a question, the report says so on its own line. It is evidence, and it is never counted as a mention.
- Position in a list. Named first and named fifth both count once.
- Sentiment. An answer that names you while warning against you still counts as named. Read the answer.
