Glossary
Plain definitions of the terms Peach uses, including the difference between a mention and a citation.
Updated
In short. A mention is your brand name in an answer. A citation is a website domain in an answer. A gap is a question that was answered without you. Peach scores mentions.
Terms
AEO
Answer engine optimisation. The work of getting a brand named in the answers that AI assistants give, as opposed to ranked in a list of links.
GEO
Generative engine optimisation. Another name for the same work. Peach treats AEO and GEO as the same thing.
Answer
The text one engine returned for one prompt. Peach collects one answer per prompt per engine.
Citation
In Peach, a website domain written in the text of an answer. It is not a source link the assistant retrieved. See Citations.
Citation rate
For a competitor, the share of sampled answers that named it. Calculated the same way as your mention rate.
Classification
What Peach has decided you sell: the kind of business, the category, the buyer, your size and your market. It drives the prompts and the competitor list. You can correct it in Brand Hub.
Engine
One of the systems Peach asks: ChatGPT, Gemini or Google Search. See Engines.
Funnel stage
Where the reader of an article is in their decision. Top of funnel readers are learning about a problem. Mid funnel readers are comparing ways to solve it.
Gap
A prompt that at least one engine answered, where no engine named you. Also called a missed question. See Missed questions.
Market
The country a report is measured in, or global when no single country stands out. See Market and geography.
Mention
Your brand name, or a name your own site uses for you, appearing in an answer. This is what the score counts.
Mention rate
Answers that named you, divided by answers the engines returned. See How the score works.
Open gap
A gap where no competitor you track was named either.
Prompt
One buyer question that Peach puts to the engines. Each check uses eight.
Query fan-out
The related questions behind a prompt. In Peach these are estimated by a model, not observed. See Query Fan-Out.
Sample
The set of answers one check collected. One answer per prompt per engine. A sample describes what was collected, not what every user sees.
Source
In the Content Engine, the thing content is written for: a website, an added URL or an added topic.
Stale
A suggested topic linked to a gap from an earlier check that your latest check no longer reports. See What to write.
Verdict
The result for one answer: Named, Not named in this sample, or No answer.
