Citations
What the Citations tab counts, and why a citation in Peach is a domain written in an answer, not a source link.
Updated
In short. The Citations tab counts website domains that appear in the text of the answers. ChatGPT and Gemini are asked without web search and return no source links, so these are domains the model wrote, not pages it retrieved.
What a citation is here
When an answer contains a domain such as example.com, Peach counts it. Each domain is sorted into one of three groups:
| Group | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Your domain | The website you checked |
| Competitor domains | A domain belonging to a competitor on your list |
| Third-party sources | Everything else: review sites, publications, directories |
What the tab shows
- Summary counts. Distinct domains found, total domain mentions, how many were competitors, and how many were third parties.
- Platform citation mix. The three groups, split by engine.
- Influential domains. The domains that appear most, with the engines and questions they appeared in.
- Top cited prompts. The questions whose answers contained the most domains.
How to use it
The third-party group is the useful one. A review site or directory that keeps appearing in answers about your category is a place buyers, and models, treat as a reference. Check whether you are listed there.
What it cannot tell you
- These are not retrieved sources. A model writing a domain from memory is not the same as an assistant browsing to a page and linking it. Peach does not see which pages the ChatGPT or Gemini apps open.
- Only some domain endings are counted. Peach recognises domains ending in .com, .io, .ai, .co, .org, .net, .app and .dev. A domain ending in .in, .de or .fr written in an answer is not counted today.
- A domain can be written wrongly. Models sometimes produce a plausible address for a real company. Check before acting on one.
